After a quick tour of a barn that could rival any mansion in Boston for sheer size and impressiveness, Duke escorted Ari back to her room.

Awareness flared in her body when he said goodnight and she wanted to invite him in, but didn’t. She needed to be alone and figure out what the hell she was doing.

Even though she was exhausted, all she could do was lie in bed and think about Duke. Her mind kept flicking back to him in just a towel, then conjured up his scent, the one she got lost in when she had hugged him.

This was probably the biggest mistake of her life, because she knew without a doubt that she wanted him. And she thought she felt interest from his side, too.

She knew this couldn’t lead anywhere good.

With a groan she threw the covers off her overheated body.

Duke had unleashed an itch inside her and nothing was helping. Knowing he was just across the hall was torture, so she did the next best thing. She slid her fingers down over her stomach and into the front of her panties.

Ari bit back a moan when she pushed through her own folds and found herself soaking wet. Just as she started sliding her fingers across where she needed it most, a knock came at her door. Her nipples strained against her thin tank top so she grabbed her sheet and pulled it up.

“Come in.”

As if she’d conjured him from her fantasies, Duke stepped into the room wearing nothing except a pair of lounge pants that hung low on his lean hips. Her mouth watered at the sight and she had to force her gaze upwards to meet his stare.

“Thought you might be hungry,” he said.

He carried a tray toward her and the sheet fell as she moved so he could set the tray down next to her.

On it was a sandwich, a soda and a few cookies.

His gaze snagged on the hard peaks pushing against the cotton. His breath hissed out and he shifted a few steps from the bed.

Heat flooded her body. Maybe if she hadn't been thinking about him, about how he’d feel under her fingers or how his skin would taste, it would be easier to ignore how the room shrank around them. If she wasn’t buzzing with awareness from where her fingers had been pressed between her legs, she might be able to look away from the fire burning in his eyes.

Instead she was trapped, half inside her fantasy and half here with him. Her breath hitched in her chest. He was right, she was hungry, starving actually, but not for anything on the tray. But she had to do something, so she grabbed the cookie and took a small bite, though she barely tasted it.

His gaze turned predatory when he looked at her lips.

“You can’t look at me like that,” she whispered.

“Like what?” The thick drawl in his voice made her even wetter. She’d noticed that whenever his eyes went dark, his accent became more pronounced.
